text is for questions 1 to 4.
By now, a rocket will have set off on its 35 million mile trip to Mars and
scientists must be waiting anxiously for
the results. The rocket will be travelling for six months before it reaches the
planet. It contains a number of scientific intruments, including a television
camera. Any pictures that are taken will have to travel for three minutes
before they reach the earth. If the pictures are successful, they may solve a
number of problems about Mars and provide information about the markings on its
surface which, nearly 100 years ago, the astronomer, Schiaparelli, thought to
be canals.
It will be a long time before any landing on Mars can be attempted. This will only be possible
when scientists have learn a lot more about the atmosphre that surrounds the
planet. If a satellite can one day be put into orbit round Mars, scientists
will be able to find out a great deal. An interesting suggestion formeasuring
the atmosphere around Mars has been put forward a rubber ball containing a
radio transmitter could be dropped from a satelite so that it would fall
towards the surface of the planet. The radio would signal the rate at which the
ball was slowed down and scientists would be able to calculate how dense the
atmosphere is. It may even be possible to drop a capsule containing scientific
intruments on to the planet’s surface. Only when a great deal more information
has been obtained, will it be possible to plan a manned trip to Mars.

Business travelers
usually find they have little time to exercise, especially when their schedules
are suddenly changed by late meeting or late flights. But everyone should get
some exercise. There are ways to make exercise part of your day, even when you
cannot make it to the hotel’s exercise room. Experts suggest stretching your
neck, arms, back, and shoulders while sitting in your airplane seat. At your
hotel, you can stretch your legs and abdominal muscles. Then, you can run in
place for a good aerobic workout.
Exercise is not just
for your body; it is for your mind as well. The mind-body connection has long
been established by professional medical associations. People who exercise
regularly perform more efficiently at work and perform more effectively than
their colleagues who don’t exercise. So to get ahead of everyone else, try to
exercise everyday, even when traveling.

Most countries have
their own myths and legends. These are stories about the early history of a
place or a group of people. Famous legends in Indonesia
are Si Malin Kundang from West Java, Sangkuriang from West Java, and Calon
Arang from Bali.
The Aboriginal
people of Australia
have many legends. The most famous of
these are called the Dreamtime. The Dreamtime explains the origin and culture
of the land and its people. Some people say Aboriginal culture dates back
65,000 years. Amazing! The Dreamtime contains many parts. As with other cultures
it explains how the Earth was formed and how humans were created. There are
Gods and Goddesses –some who were kind hearted and some were cruel. Each tribe
has its own individual Dreamtime story but many of them have similar parts to
the story. The Dreamtime stories are passed down to the next generation through
story telling and dancing and painting. Nothing is written down and there are
no TV series about it either.

The kinds of gases
used in cookers and gas fires come from three sources. The first kind in made
of coal; while the third, natural gas, is almost entirely methane.
Geologist believe
that natural gas rose into the rock holes in the sandstone, and was prevented
from escaping upwards out of the sandstones by a “cap” rock usually a form of
rock salt-which formed a dome over the natural reservoir of gas.
In Jakarta
and other big cities in Indonesia,
it is common practice to use gas for cooking. Gas reaches the houses through
large underground pipes called gas mains, and smaller pipes called service
pipes lead to the gas metre in each house or building. The metre records how
much gas is used.
Natural gas from oil
has no distinctive smell, so adding quantities of concentrated adroitness; to
enable people to detect any leak that may accrue produces an artificial smell.
Pertamina sells
bottled gas under the name of ‘ELPIJI’. The gas is put in steel drums or
cylinder. People who live in places without a piped supply use bottled gas, by
yachtsmen and campers. Indonesia’s
role in LNG production started in 1977 with the initiation of the LNG facility
at Bontang. About a year later plants at Arun also started production and
exportation.
