The Verrazano Bridge which was designed by Othmar Ammann, joins Brooklyin to Starten Island. It has a span of 4260 feet. The bridge is so long that the shape of the earth had to be taken into account by its designer. Two great towers support 4 huge cables. The towers are built on immense under water platforms made of steel and concrete.
The platforms extend to a depth of over 100 feet under the sea. These alone took 16 months to build. Above the surface of the water , the towers rise to a height of nearly 700 feet. They support the cables from which the bridge has been suspended. Each of the four cables contains 26,108 lengths of wire. Bisons have not always lived in North America; they are relative newcomers. They belong to the Bovidae family, like domestic cattle and the wild buffalo of Africa and Asia. The oldest known bison fossils have been found in China and the Himalaya foothills, where an animal with all essential features of the genus lived a million years ago. They evolved rapidly and spread over most of the northern hemisphere in Europe and Siberia. During one of the Ice Ages, the sea level dropped, exposing a land bridge across the Bering Strait, allowing the faunas of Asia and North America to intermingle. Very early, the steppe bison moved eastward to the North American continent.

21. What is the topic of the paragraph ?
  1. The spread of bisons from China and Himalaya to North America
  2. Types of bisons belonging to the Bovidae family

A black hole is a region of space created by the total gravitational collapse of matter. It is so intense that nothing, not even light or radiation, can escape. In other words, it is a one-way surface through which matter can fall inward but cannot emerge.
Some astronomers believe that a black hole may be formed when a large star collapses inward from its own weight. So long as they are emitting heat and light into space, stars support themselves against their own gravitational pull with the outward thermal Pressure generated by heat from nuclear reactions deep in their interiors If a star eventually exhausts its nuclear fuel, its unbalanced gravitational attraction could cause it to contract and collapse. Furthermore, it could begin to pull in surrounding matter, including nearby comets and planets, creating a black hole.

By now, a rocket will have set off on its 35 million mile trip to Mars and scientists must  be waiting anxiously for the results. The rocket will be travelling for six months before it reaches the planet. It contains a number of scientific intruments, including a television camera. Any pictures that are taken will have to travel for three minutes before they reach the earth. If the pictures are successful, they may solve a number of problems about Mars and provide information about the markings on its surface which, nearly 100 years ago, the astronomer, Schiaparelli, thought to be canals.
It will be a long time before any landing on Mars can be attempted. This will only be possible when scientists have learn a lot more about the atmosphre that surrounds the planet. If a satellite can one day be put into orbit round Mars, scientists will be able to find out a great deal. An interesting suggestion formeasuring the atmosphere around Mars has been put forward a rubber ball containing a radio transmitter could be dropped from a satelite so that it would fall towards the surface of the planet. The radio would signal the rate at which the ball was slowed down and scientists would be able to calculate how dense the atmosphere is. One day, a wolf was having his dinner. He was very greedy as usual. Suddenly a bone get stuck in his throat. He tried and tried to get it out, but he could not.
“What a nasty bone!” he complained. The bone gave him a lot of pain. He was about to cry when he suddenly thought of the Crane.
“Ah”, he said to himself, “Let me go to the Crane. She has a long bill. I hope she can help me to get this bone out of my throat.”
So he instantly went and looked for the Crane. He soon found her near a pond and greeted her in a soft and melodious sound, “Good Morning, Miss Crane.”
The Crane wanted to flyaway because she was very much afraid of the Wolf. But the Wolf quickly added, “Please, Miss Crane, don’t flyaway. I need your help. I’m in great trouble.”
“Well, well, well!” said the Crane keeping herself at a distance. Just imagine! A Wolf needs a Crane’s help! Do you think I believe that? How many of folks have been killed already, don’t you remember?
“Oh please, Miss Crane, let bygones be bygones. Now, I need your help badly,” said the Wolf and stepped forward.
The Wolf tried as hard as he could to ensure the Crane. She helped him but he forgot to fulfill his promise. He told her that he would give her a reward if she was able to get a bone which struck in his throat out. But, finally she got nothing.

The kinds of gases used in cookers and gas fires come from three sources. The first kind in made of coal; while the third, natural gas, is almost entirely methane.
Geologist believe that natural gas rose into the rock holes in the sandstone, and was prevented from escaping upwards out of the sandstones by a “cap” rock usually a form of rock salt-which formed a dome over the natural reservoir of gas.
In Jakarta and other big cities in Indonesia, it is common practice to use gas for cooking. Gas reaches the houses through large underground pipes called gas mains, and smaller pipes called service pipes lead to the gas metre in each house or building. The metre records how much gas is used.
Natural gas from oil has no distinctive smell, so adding quantities of concentrated adroitness; to enable people to detect any leak that may accrue produces an artificial smell.
Pertamina sells bottled gas under the name of ‘ELPIJI’. The gas is put in steel drums or cylinder. People who live in places without a piped supply use bottled gas, by yachtsmen and campers. Indonesia’s role in LNG production started in 1977 with the initiation of the LNG facility at Bontang. About a year later plants at Arun also started production and exportation.
